History
Flynn O'Liathain was decanted in 2776 as part of the Biology department's cloning program. Considered a "spare" in case a calamity were to befall the current captain, Faye O'Liathain, Flynn was kept in the background as a part of the small captain population and overlooked by the ship's higher echelon of personnel as one of the duplicates. He was schooled in the usual manner of general education and then underwent mandatory captain training.
Since earliest childhood, Flynn felt the isolation and tendency to be overlooked by the populace quite acutely. He often felt neglected and longed to be recognized as a worthy individual. He was a good student and kept up his studies in the hopes it would earn him some recognition. He began to compete with his older sister, knowing she had been chosen as the Legacy's next captain. Often he was driven to antagonize her and pull pranks on her, feeling that any notice, even for negative things, was better than nothing. This was not without its consequences. When Flynn was 13, he lost an ear when he played a trick on Faye by dressing up in a gorilla costume and jumping out at her from a closet. Startled, Faye clubbed him with a coathanger and accidentally tore off his ear. The ear was replaced with a synthetic model that Flynn requested upgraded with an increased audio sensitivity and network connection to the ship's LSAN. As a result, he was able to tune into people's conversations from an extraordinary range. This caused several disciplinary actions against Flynn as he put his ability to use in negative ways to eavesdrop on private or confidential conversations.
After completing his captain training, Flynn greatly wanted to captain his own ship, feeling frustrated at being forced to stay aboard the Legacy as a "spare captain". He began to chafe for freedom and adventure and hoped that the return to Earth would mean the availability of a ship, or that he would finally be needed to aid in the effort. His increased boredom and anxiety caused him ever more trouble as he made a pest of himself with Faye and the other Heads, often dropping in on them unexpectedly to talk and snoop around.
Not long after the Legacy returned to Earth, Flynn received word from the military that he was wanted to participate in a covert operation. The military had discovered a rogue fleet that was harassing BnL ships and wanted to infiltrate their ranks in an effort to sabotage and take over to bring the rogue fleet to justice. The military had heard of Flynn's upgraded audio capabilities and wanted to send him, along with several other people, on this undercover mission. Flynn accepted the mission whole-heartedly and was sent in a decoy ship along with the others to be picked up by the rogue fleet.
Flynn spent a year on one of the rogue fleet's ships Ho Fat's Luxury Taxi, learning their secrets and operations until he finally managed to overthrow their command. He returned the rogue fleet to Earth, claiming Ho Fat's Luxury Taxi as his own ship. The military and the Captain's Council let him keep command of the Enterprise's sister ship to honor the service he had rendered for Aurora.
Personality
Flynn O'Liathain shares the same characteristics of the O'Liathain bloodline. He speaks with a thick Irish accent in Hiberno-English, which makes it difficult for other people to understand him at times. He is lively and boisterous, and can be either very focused or very stubborn once he sets his mind on a goal. He possesses a fiery hair-trigger temper that only chocolate can soothe, and is known to get into loud arguments and fights with others to defend his views or position on things. Flynn is very fond of reading and will escape into a book for hours when he feels his life becoming too oppressive.
