History

Faye O’Liathain is the 9th and current captain of The Legacy.

Little is known about any of the Captains pasts, including Faye's. Each one has been an orphan, while this is not a normal thing on other star liners it is usually looked for in Captain candidates on the Legacy.

Her adoptive father was the Legacy’s 8th Captain Vinod O’Liathain, her mother was Kayla Sharland, a Robotics/Systems Engineer whom had carried out some work on the bridge in the past. Even though Faye was determined to become the next captain like her father, her mother taught her as much about robotics as she possibly could, mainly to respect them and treat them as equals and to uphold the Legacy’s Morals in regards to them.

After gaining an education at the Legacy’s college she began her captain training at the age of 19, during which time she lost contact with many friends whom branched off into their favoured areas of science. It often made her doubt her decision to become captain, such uncertainties were only worsened when she was informed she must start to show up to the college in her trainee uniform; many of the kids being from different departments often ignored or picked on her in unison now that they knew she was the next captain. 5 years later Faye took over her father’s job as Captain in 2801 AD, her perseverance had paid off.

Having grown up around Animo, The Legacy’s Autopilot, she knew exactly what to expect from the robot when they were to finally become a team, they were already like family. Most Autopilots and captains strictly work together and do not form a social bond, Faye and her Autopilot are incredibly close. Half of this stems from Faye’s clingy nature and Animo’s radical upgrades to make him more humanlike. The friendship was only deepened with the passing of her father and mother in 2802 AD which served as a grave wakeup call.

However, unlike her Autopilot she has very little interest for the scientific experiments carried out, finding any meetings with the heads and their scientists to be boring and counter productive as they rarely get along. However the experiments do take her interest when they impose a big enough threat to the ship’s overall safety; As acting Captain each department Head reports directly to her and must request permission before even attempting such dangerous experiments, some take place without consent though, the departmental heads going behind her back as it were to perform them.

Personality

Faye is usually pleasant towards people and open minded; she is rarely quick to judge and will usually attempt to stay neutral in a conflict, most of which she has picked up from her Autopilot’s placid nature. There are times however, where she can be very temperamental bordering on angry if things don’t go to plan, she is also very loud and energetic even at the most inappropriate of times. Faye is very stubborn in her belief that robots should be treated as equals, she attempts to uphold such morals on the Legacy to the best of her abilities; anyone that would dare debase such an idea had better be ready for a intense debate and she certainly isn’t scared to get into a fight… More often than not she will start them.

Because of her job she rarely gets enough sleep and is often very tired, this only adds to her already temperamental behaviour, usually causing her to loose her temper almost instantly or go into a sarcastic tone even if she does not mean it. Normally when the wellbeing of the Legacy is in question she will become irritated and defensive.

Just as the rest of the captains did, she speaks Hiberno-English (also known as Anglo-Irish and Irish English – English as spoken in Ireland) with a very thick Irish accent and uses many old words from earth that were carried throughout her adoptive family. Usually when she becomes angry it can become impossible to understand what Faye is yelling, unfortunately this happens an awful lot.

Genetic Experiment

While she, and others do not know it, Faye is the Biological Clone of an old Earth Captain, Niamh O’Laithain, from Ireland who was genetically modified by her father a BnL Geneticist, Jahe Grey. The name O’Liathain means ‘descendant of Liathan’ and in turn ‘Liathan’ means ‘Grey’, as such the entire scheme was named The Grey Project and all of its participants were given the last name O’Laithain. It runs in tandem with The Legacy Experiment.

Much like the Legacy's passengers were all subjected to Genetic experiments so were the captains. Their brain chemistry was changed in such a way that it made them want to be in command, made them into strong leaders, made them want to be captains (just like other families were modified to want to become scientists). By Faye’s generation the genetic code for this could not be removed without another 700 years worth of bloodline. It is for this reason all of them have been 'orphans' with no true biological parents present, such changes can only be made in the embryo stage, meaning they are either implanted into the mother or artificially grown.
